of Lombard Street : A Century of Change in East Baltimore
Visit
this landmark exhibition that interprets the history of East Baltimore
's Jewish community. As it traces the neighborhood's evolution from 1900
to today, the exhibition will chronicle Jewish life and show how the experiences
of Jews and other residents intersected, overlapped and diverged.

This revealing and provocative exhibition, on loan from The Jewish Museum New York, offers a fresh perspective on contemporary Israel through the eyes of an international array of artists.

Israel's Domestic And Foreign Policy Challenges: A Look To The Future

Contemporary Israel: Domestic Politics, Foreign Policy, and Security Challenges (Boulder,Colorado:Westview Press, 2008), a new book edited by Baltimore Hebrew University's Robert O. Freedman, examines some of the challenges facing Israel today. This ground-breaking volume brings together essays by American and Israeli scholars to provide insights into Israel's political and foreign policy climate. Dr. Freedman will discuss his book and sign copies, which will be available in the Museum Shop. Reservations required.

Young Adult Night Wine Tasting Event
The Best of the Sam Spiegel School: Movie Shorts
Thursday November 13, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
What could be better than drinking fine wine while watching films by some of Israel's most talented new artists? Young adults are invited for an evening of sipping and cinema. The short films are the latest by students at the Sam Spiegel School, Israel's leading film institute. The beverages are compliments of DiWine Spirits. Films contain explicit language.

Film Screening and Discussion with Producer Jon Lopatin
Eyes Wide Open
Sunday November 16, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
This documentary film chronicles the experiences of American Jewish tourists in Israel, revealing their complex and sometimes strained relationship with the Jewish State. A 60-minute look at the reality inside the tour buses, Eyes Wide Open is a story of inspiration and emotional challenges. Jon Lopatin, the film’s producer, will offer opening remarks and lead a post-film discussion.

Baltimore Immigration Summit
November 21, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m
The Museum is proud to partner with Towson University, the Baltimore City Mayor's Office, and the Baltimore Jewish Council to present a one-day event that brings together academics, service providers, activists, community leaders, and other working with and for immigrants in our region. Baltimore, once a hub of Jewish immigration, continues to have a growing and diverse population of newcomers. Come learn about the issues that shape discussions about immigration to Baltimore today. Children of the Sun
Sunday November 23, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Winner of the Best Documentary award at the Jerusalem Film Festival, Children of the Sun traces the kibbutz movement from its utopian beginnings to its disintegration.
The film, a collage of archival footage from dozens of splendidly preserved home movies, paired with the reminiscences of first-generation kibbutzniks, tells this tale with warmth and wit.

Aliyah, Israeli Style
Sunday December 7, 2 - 4 p.m.
Noted Jewish educator Rivkah Lambert Adler will discuss the history of aliyah, Jewish immigration to the State of Israel. She will share riveting personal testimonies from people who have wrestled with the complex decision to settle in Israel, and talk about her work with Chug Aliyah and Nefesh B’ Nefesh, two organizations that work with people who are considering a life in Israel.

The Joseph & Minna Feldman Lecture Program
"Israel in the Media: The Story from Different Angles"
Sunday, December 14, 2:30-4:00 p.m.
This panel discussion will feature CBS News national correspondent, Dan Raviv; Natan Guttman national reporter for The Forward; and Neil Rubin of the Baltimore Jewish Times. The discussion will be moderated by Peter Hermann of the Baltimore Sun. Participants will share their perspectives on coverage of Israel in today's radio, television and print media.
Reservations are required. This program is co-sponsored by the Baltimore Jewish Council. Admission is Free.

Film Screening:
The Miracle of Israel
Produced by Berel Wein and Destiny Films, The Miracle of Israel is part of the documentary series Faith and Fate: The Story of the Jewish People in the 20th Century. Historians and eyewitnesses, together with never-before-seen imagery, bring to life the journey of the Jewish people, culminating with the realization of their two thousand year old dream of Jewish statehood. Beverly Beard, the film’s supervising editor in charge of archival research will give remarks.

Winter Break Open House
School’s Out!
Monday December 30 and Tuesday December 31
12 noon – 4 p.m. each day
The JMM is the place to bring your kids and grandkids during winter break. Each day will feature hands-on activities and entertainment, including music and arts and crafts. On December 30th, Daniel Barash will delight young and old with the ancient art of shadow puppetry. Materials will be on hand for participants to create their own shadow puppets, followed by a puppet parade. Our December 25 and Winter Break programs are generously supported by Mayor Sheila Dixon and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and the Maryland States Art Council.
